Remember to have fun when you hypnotize someone, it will make experience more enjoyable and you will learn much faster. What I have done here is put a step by step handshake induction so you can try it on your friends, it's great fun!

1) Find a suggestible person who wants to be hypnotized - this is pretty much impossible to do with an uncooperative person (if performing for an audience then you must make sure they trust you and want to be hypnotized).

2) They may fall, so sit them on a chair and be ready to catch them. You can do it standing, but there is a risk of injury or illness.

3) Reach out and begin to shake the person's hand

4) Mid-handshake, interrupt the action by raising the subjects hand near to but not touching their face. Instruct them to look at their hand. Immediately start speaking, telling them that their vision is becoming blurred and their eyes are becoming weary.

5) Without stopping, raise your hand into the gap between their hand and face, in front of both eyes if possible. As you bring it up, say "I'm bringing my hand up here, and as I lower it, close your eyes". Bring your hand down towards the end of that sentence. Their eyes should be closed, if not, start again.

6) Tell them to imagine a force pushing their hand towards their face. Tell them it's getting stronger. When a part of their hand touches their face, tell them that "As soon as your hand touches your face, its stuck there. You can't move it or pull it off."

7) Once their hand is completely stuck to their face, tell them the force is gone and ask them to relax, telling them the stickiness will hold their hand in place. If their hand comes off their face, start again.

8) Tell them that, when you tell them to, not yet, they should try to pull their hand away from their face. Keep telling them that they won't be able to do this, but you want them to try.

9) Give them the instruction to pull their hand away. Tell them that as they pull harder and harder, the stickieness becomes stronger and stronger. If their hand comes completely away from their face, start again.

10) Tell them to relax and let the stickiness hold their hand in place.

11) Tell them that when you grab their wrist and say "Release" the stickiness will disappear and that their eyes will remain closed.

12) Grab their wrist, say "Release" and put both their hands out, palms facing each other, fingers straight, reasonably large distance between the hands. The hands should be parallel.

13) Tell them that their palms are magnets, pulling towards each other. Tell them that the magnets get stronger and stronger as they get closer. You should see their hands move towards each other, going faster as they get closer.

14) When their hands are about 5-8 seconds from touching, say "When your hands touch, you're going to sleep" then count down "3, 2, 1, sleep". The subject will enter a trance-like state. He/She is now hypnotized.

15) To bring them back from this state, just say "Awake".

16) For about 20 minutes after that, you can re-induce the state quickly by saying "Sleep" and clicking your fingers. If this doesn't work, then tell them to follow your hand and move your hand in a swirling motion. Then after around 2 seconds, click your fingers and say sleep. If this doesn't work then you need to surprise them by saying or shouting sleep at an unexpected time.

If you want to go down the road of becoming a professional stage hypnotist then PRACTICE this technique, once you have mastered it you will be ready to start hitting the stage and getting some serious cash for doing shows. I recommend doing this with a fellow hypnosis enthusiast because you will both be open to suggestion. All the best and enjoy!
